What a blast I had this past weekend!  Andrea Sullivan (and her husband) were here from Ontario for the long Weekend.  It was absolutely wonderful being in her classes, she is such a fantastic teacher and both her and her husband have a great sense of humour!!

Here are some pictures of the cakes and toppers that I made from her classes:

Italian Meringue Buttercream

A few weeks ago, I took a class which featured Italian Meringue Buttercream and let me tell you if you've never tried it you absolutely must!!  It was love at first bite :-)  It is so light, smooth and creamy, not at all what I was expecting since there is so much butter in the recipe.  This is definitely going to be one of my regular buttercreams rather than the good old shortening based buttercream that I currently make.

I haven't made any yet, but I'm hoping to have some time this week and when I do I will be posting some pictures :-)  I will also post the recipe at the same time!

Recent Class at Scrapbooking Store

I recently took a class at our local scrapbooking store called "Organized for Life".  When I first saw the class I thought "this is perfect for me, just what I need right now since I'm in the middle of re-doing the craft room".  Yes, I'm still working on the craft room :-)  Actually I'm still trying to pack everything up and move it into the other bedroom.  I've had to wait for my son to move all of his stuff out to his place before I could start moving anything in and that's been my excuse not to pack more than I could store in the open floor space that I have in the craft room.  Good excuse right?  That's what I keep telling myself anyway and it works for me :-)

This is a picture and a description of the class:

Organized for Life

January Organizer

"Let's start the new year with a little organization. Do you have too many products - you can't keep track of what you already have and what you may need? You're not alone!! In this class we will be creating a product organizer."

Anyway, back to the class.  First I should have clued in by the size of the book compared to the stickles bottle, but being fairly new to the paper crafting world I didn't.  The book itself was only 6" x 4 1/2".

I don't really know where start or how to organize everything on paper that I have.  Well let me just say that this class did not live up to my expectations; all we did was put together a book with some dividers in it.  Does that sound like the description to you?  Well it sure as heck doesn't to me!  So I'm asking anyone reading this if they have any suggestions for me that would help me to in putting onto paper an inventory of everything that I have and organizing it so that it's easy to see at a glance.  I'm finding that it's at the point that I'm buying duplicates of things now, especially for my cake decorating equipment, which isn't cheap :-(

Well, that's enough ranting for now, I'll be back later this week with a yummy post about cakes and buttercream ..................mmmmmmmm.

Take care, and thanks for stopping by

Annette

Hockey Skate

This was a last minute cake that I made for my nephew who was going back to Alberta to his home away from home.  He was recently drafted to a Junior Hockey team up there and was able to come home for Christmas.  Before he left I didn't have a chance to give him a congratulations cake and I was feeling really bad.  Then with Christmas and New Years, the time went by so quickly that I didn't even realize that it was time for him to leave again.

So I quickly got the cakes I had in the freezer (I had luckily just made some) and I started carving them.  This was at 11:00 am on Sunday morning.  At 7:30 my brother called and asked if we were going to make it over there to say goodbye, WOW where had the time gone??  I couldn't believe that it was that late already but this cake was a bit of a challenge.  First I carved it, then it was crumbcoated in buttercream, put in the fridge to set, then I coated it with 2 coats of Chocolate Ganache and let that set, and finally it was covered in fondant.

The inspiration came from a picture I found on the internet but I can't rtemember the persons name so that I can give him/her credit :-(

This is what I came up with:

Happy New Year

Hello,

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year!!!!

Has anyone made any new year' resolutions? I have, I usually don't stick to them very long but this year I am really going to try :-)

My new year' resolution are to post on a more regular basis on my blog, create at least one cake a month, and sometimes I may do a raffle and give the cake away to one lucky Facebook follower and finally do some more crafting. I really need to start using some of this wonderful equipment that I have, otherwise what's the point of having it, right?

Well, gotta go for now, family is coming over for eggs Benny brunch tomorrow and I should get some sleep :-)

Thanks for stopping by,

Annette
